Herne Bay Festival needs you!

Same Sky has been contracted to deliver Herne Bay Festival in 2013.  We are hosting a meeting for artists, arts organisations, community groups, schools and colleges and local venues to meet people, present our plans for the 2013 festival and how to get involved.  There will be staff on hand to discuss your ideas and answer your questions.  Please RSVP to dan@samesky.co.uk as soon as possible to confirm your attendance.  If you can’t make it, please read on and contact us to discuss your involvement.  Please feel free to forward this invitation to other artists or organisations who may wish to participate.

Who is Same Sky?

Same Sky is an award-winning community arts charity based in Brighton.  We create magical, out-of-this-world events: luminous night-time parades, fantastical puppets and floats, fire shows, costumes and imaginative concepts.  Every step of our creative process is about bringing people together, encouraging equality and belonging through a shared experience of art, and creating moments that will feed the imagination for a long time after.

What will the 2013 festival consist of?

For 2013 the festival will run from Saturday 17 to Sunday 26 August.  We will be retaining the successful flagship events that have made the festival such a success and will be looking at ways to enhance them.  We will be introducing an overall theme for the festival this year – it will encompass key flagship events and can be taken on by event partners – it will be ‘Creatures of the Deep’.  We hope that many of you will find a way to embrace it!

Further details of our plans will be presented at the event partner meeting.  Alongside the flagship events, East Kent based organisations and individuals are invited to present their own events, forming the traditionally rich mix of programme that comprises the festival.

What opportunities are on offer?

You can come up with an event idea and apply to present it as part of the festival.  We can offer inclusion in the festival marketing and PR campaign (website, social media, press, brochures etc).  You’ll need to complete the Event Partner Form and we’d like to hear your ideas as soon as possible but the final deadline will be 30 April 2013.

There are a number of other ways we can assist you to present events.  It may be you need help finding a venue, with licensing and insurance advice, finding partners or participants…. The festival team will offer advice and direct you to resources to help make your event possible.

If you are a school, college or community group interested participating in the festival, please register your interest by filling in the Community Participation Form by 31 May 2013.  There will be participation opportunities nearer the festival as part of the children’s parade, flagship events and as volunteers.  We may also be able to pair you up with local artists creating other events.

We will also be looking for a wide range of volunteers to ensure that we deliver a smooth and successful festival!  We will need all the help we can muster for a variety of roles including marketing, event production, evaluation etc.  If you think you could help please fill in a Volunteer Form as soon as possible.  We will be recruiting volunteers right up to the festival itself, but the sooner you can offer your help the better!
